About Dr. Bare

Dr. Bare is a licensed psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults. She has particular interest in assessment of ADHD and school-related difficulties, anxiety and depression in teenagers, behavior difficulties in children, working with parents during challenging interactions with their kids, and helping adolescents and young adults manage the transition to life after high school.

She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology on the Child track from the University of Alabama and completed her predoctoral internship in Pediatric Psychology at Duke University Medical Center. She has clinical experience in a variety of settings, including private practice, a residential treatment center, a prison, and hospitals. Dr. Bare is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Montevallo and teaches courses on general psychology, psychopathology, child psychopathology, and clinical psychology. She has been a guest on several podcasts and provided public workshops on teasing and bullying, discipline, willpower, and resilience.

 

Dr. Bare writes a Substack newsletter called Parenting Teenage Boys, in which she discusses parenting teenage boys from the perspective of a psychologist who has been in the trenches raising her own teenage sons. In addition, she regularly posts for Psychology Today in a column discussing psychological concerns related to teenage boys, called Boys Will Be Boys, which has had over 80,000 views over 20 posts.
